A spectrochemical analysis was developed to determine trace impurities in pure iron. A sample was dissolved in acids, iron was removed by isopropylether extraction, and then the aqueous solution containing impurity elements was dried with graphite powder. The powder was mixed with lithium carbonate and examined by use of DC arc in argon-oxygen atomsphere with Stallwood jet. Ten elements (Mn, Cu, Ni, Cr, Al, Ti, V, Co, Zn and Cd) were found to be determined in the range of 0.1 to 100 ppm.
