Manufacturing of acetaldehyde from acetylene (from clcium carbide) and further manufacturing of acetic acid, ethyl acetate, and paraldehyde thereof has been investigated from industrial view point and the following experiments have been made. (I) As a method for removing of phosphine from acetylene by use of hypochlorite solution a method of continuous regulation of the concentration and the pH was investigateg. (II) (1) In the manufacturing of acetaldehyde by use of metalic mercury and mercuric sulfate as the catalyst, the effect of reaction temperature and iron salt (catalyst promotor), respectively, was different. (2) In the case of recovering of acetylene from hydrated waste gas by the solvent extraction method, the conditions for a continuous recovery by use of paraldehyde as absorbing agent were saught. (III) As a method for a continuous manufacturing of acetic acid, the conditions for reaction were investigated and the gaseous compositions of explosion range in waste gas were saught as a safety measure. (IV) In the manufacturing of ethyl acetate by the Tischtschenko reaction, the relation between the amount of catalyst and the percentage of reaction in the batch process was investigated. It was found that the catalyst could be used repeatedly. (V) In the manufacturing of paraldehyde, cation-exchange resin was used as the catalyst and the relation between relative exchange capacity and catalyst activity was saught in connection with the treatment of the resin.
