For providing the nation with fresh fish through the improvement of transportation technics, in 1962 fish transportation tests between Minato Station and Tokyo-Market Station were carried out to investigate the effect of dry ice and iron fish containers on the freshness of squid (Todarodes pacificus), where the iron fish containers were laid out within the wagon according to the orthogonal layout. It was revealed that (1) iron fish containers were more effective than wooden ones; (2) dry ice could not be found directly effective, but depending on the manner of using it, it can be expected to prove effective somewhat.
