The authors reported the experience to observe bonito school under a drifting timber, with other kinds of fishes, such as yellow fin, common dolphin, trigger fish, spanish mackerel etc, by following them on board of fishing boat for 20 hours. By sudden change of weather the boat went another way from the timber, but after 28 hours a part of the fishes was found under the boat. In this paper is stated the observation in the course and some ecological consideration. Though it is said in Japan for the reason of bonito to school about the drifting timber in surface of oceanic waters that “they like to be in shadow” or “there are plenty of small fishes as food of it”, in this paper is stated that these reasons are not complete for the habitude.
