1. The spores of Porphyra tenera were collected from the sea by sedimentation. They occurred twice in autumn, i. e. in the beginning of Ocrober and in the middle of Nocember. 2. The October spores measured 9.4μ-12.5μ in diameter and were counted 50-70per L. There is much resemblance between the characters of them and those of the carpospores on the plants in the previous winter. They give rise to the "autumn buds". 3. The November spores measured 12μ-17μ in diameter and were counted 100-300per L. They were identified as the monospores from the autumn plants. Ther give rise to the "December buds".
