Diurnal periodicity as well as seasonal change was observed, in the neighbourhood of Kominato, Tiba Prefecture, in the feeding intensity of Haliotis gigantea discus REEVE. This gastropod feeds mostly at night and its food-consumption culminates during a period from January to April or May but declines toward summer. The insensity reaches a minimum during the breeding season which lasts from October to November and again resumes an ascent thereafter. Hand in hand with this change, the growth of the animal attains a maxi-mum and a minimum in the corresponding months. These results are also supported by an analysis of the data already published by OKAMUEA and SEND (1920) who, however, maintained a diagonally opposite view ons the feeding and growth of Japanese abalone.
