The reflection of sound at the snow surface were observed with the method of standing wave. If the amplitude of incident wave is a, and that of reflected wave is b, then the maximum amplitude of standing wave is a+b, and the minimum is a-b. These values a+b and a-b were measured with the carbon microphone and the Brown tube. From these values the rate of absorption A= (a2-b2)/a2 were calculated. The results were shown in Table 1. and Fig. 1.<BR>From these results the following were known.<BR>1. The rate of absorption A is considerably large.<BR>2. The smaller the density, the larger the absorption.<BR>3. For the settled snow, the higher the frequency of sound, the larger the absorption.<BR>4. For the settled snow, when the snow were warmed and wetted, the absorption increased.
