Stratigraphic studies were carried out on the Gyajo Glacier (Glacier CB 480) in the Khumbu Himal, east Nepal, from June to December in 1970. The formation and preservation of a dirt band, which is important as a key bed for stratigraphic studies, is discussed. The formation of superimposed ice was observed and the stratigraphic studies showed the monthly change of the snow deposit. Remarkable additions occurred at the end of the summer season with simultaneous formation of superimposed ice.
