• The rapid extraction method is obtained for simultaneously determing 5-HT and 5-HIAA in a single mouse brain, and can deal conveniently with up to 15-20 samples at the same time. Recovery of both indoles through the method was 75-85%, and the procedure can be applied routinely to the sensitive estimation of small amounts of 5-HT and 5-HIAA using ophthalaldehyde and L-cysteine for detection.
