The metabolic profiling of rat brain homogenate was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Twenty-five compounds in the organic acid fraction in the rat brain homogenate were identified. On the studies of sample preparation, DEAF-Sephadex separation method was more reproducible than solvent extraction. More compounds were detected by the use of ethanol for deproteinization than by the use of perchloric acid (PCA). Changes of the concentration of the compounds during maturation showed good agreements with those of previous report.
