It has been known that the reflex apnoea is observed after the intravenous injection of many drugs and Takasaki (1956) reported that the apnoea caused by nicotine was due to the "pulmonary respiratory chemoreflex", namely, the reflex which pathway ascended through the vagus nerves arising from the chemorecptors in lungs. In the other report, Takasaki et al. (1957) described that the apnoea caused by diphenhydramine meight be due to the similar mechanism. However, there are few reports in which the blocking effects of several drugs on the reflex apnoes are described. In this paper, the effects of tetraethylammonium, hexamethonium, atropine, imidazoline and procaine on the apnoea are investigated.
