An autopsy case of a cirrhotic ectopic liver accompanied with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

A 48-year-old man was diagnosed liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Multiple bone metastases were observed on a 99mTc-EHDP bone scintigram, showing abnormal isotopic accumulation at costa, acetabular tegmen and right femur. Abdominal CT scanning revealed a mass lesion of 5×3cm, which had an isodensity as the liver, at the medioanterior site of inferior vena cava beneath the liver. Autopsy disclosed the mass to be an ectopic liver, of which histology was liver cirrhosis as same as that of the main liver.<BR>A cirrhotic ectopic liver is very rare, and only five cases have been reported so far in the literature.
