The purpose of this report is to evaluate the prognostic significance of laboratory data, routinely used as liver function tests in 544 cases with cirrhosis of the liver. Of 544 cases, 289 cases survived, 206 cases died and 49 cases dropped out during this study. In the fatal group, there was the closest correlation between survival period and KICG (r=0.5000, p<0.001), which was followed by in the order of R15ICG, E-Chol, PT, Ch-E, Alb and γ-glob. In all cases, the survival rate was analysed on the basis of the life table analysis. The cumulative survival rates of one, three, five and seven years from initial admission were 80.9, 66.8, 61.2 and 49.9 percents, respectively.<BR>Furthermore, 544 cases were classified into three, four and five groups according to the degree of abnormality of each laboratory test, and the comparisons of the survival rates and survival curves were performed among those groups. It was suggested that Ch-E, Alb, γ-glob, T-Bil, PT R15ICG, KICG were all with significant predictability, among which Ch-E was with the highest significance.
