A study of the aerobic and anaerobic phase of glucose metabolism in rabbit retina was undertaken by analysis of the relationship between E.R.G. and corneal pulse waves utilizing of synchronous recording them on the acute ishemia of chorioretinal circulation giving pressure to the eye-ball.Studies have shown that the maintenance of the glucose level in the retina may be a factor related to b-wave generation, and the insulin appears to play a prominent hypoglycaemic action in the retina.The insulin effect on the initial increasing of retinal anaerobic metabolism in this experiment could also be considered as a acceleration for glucose transfer mechanism across the blood-retinal barrier. The insulin effect on the negative decreasing of retinal anaerobic metabolism 30 min to 60 min following adminis-tration in this experiment may be considered as a promotive action of anoxia for insulin. On the contrary Diamox may be counter active for retinal metabolism compared with insulin, and it is suggested that Diamox change the peripheral transfer mechanism of glucose to be opposed to insulin effect.
