Shan-shan _??__??_ Kingdom, which had a very important position in the history of Eastern and Western Cultural Contacts, possessed an admirable post-station system, and its actual condition was, for the first time, revealed by deciphering Kharosthi documents.There were guards (valaga) and guides (arivaga) stationed, at the oases in the Kingdom, such as Kroraina, Calmadana, Saca, and Cadota. When they helped the traffic of envoys or messengers by Maharajas orders, the law provided that they should be given rewards for what they did. Their rewards were cereals, flour and lucerne were also given as feed for horses and camels. As a rules, envoys and guards were allowed to use horses or camels and change them at each relay station.
