Observation of microstructure changes and the rate of densification during sintering of Cu-Pb, Cu-Bi, Fe-Cu, Fe-Ag, Co-Cu and Co-Ag in the presence of a liquid phase indicated that the rate of densification was closely related to its microstructure, and the full densification was obtained in the structure with continuous liquid phase surrounding solid particles.<BR>From the contact angle measurements by the sessile-drop method, the complete densification was obtained in the systems with complete wettability and an appreciable solubility of the solid in the liquid.<BR>The rate of particle growth was rapid in a large solubility of the solid in the liquid.
