The fundamental vibration frequencies of twelve tritium-substituted halomethanes were calculated with a view to finding suitable molecules possessing selective absorption bands situated within the range of infrared laser tuning. The calculations were performed by the Wilson FG matrix method, using the force constants reported by Plyler & Benedict. These calculations were applied to 15 hydrogen- and deuterium-substituted molecules, which resulted in an average deviation of 2.3% from the observed frequencies. Several tritium-substituted halomethanes have been found promissing for use as working molecules for tritium separation by infrared laser.
