• In the field of cutting and plastic working, the role of carbide tools has been steadily increasing due to the request of processing with high efficiency and tolerance as well as the application of high-grade work materials. Carbide tool materials consisting of cemented carbides, coated carbides, cermets, ceramics, polycrystalline diamond and cBN are applied in various fields that they can fully display their own properties.<BR>Recently, the carbide tool materials have been improved to show a longer or more consistent tool life for high-efficient processing. In this paper, therefore, the structural properties of the carbide tool materials are mainly described.
