To obtain ferrites which show rectangular hysteresis loops, MnO-ZnO-Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> ternary ferrites were sintered by the two step sintering process, wherein the first step sintering is performed under a reduced atmosphere and the second step sintering is done under an equilibrium atmosphere.<BR>Sintering process of the two step sintering was also studied.<BR>The results are as follows :<BR>1) Mn-Zn-Fe ferrites having rectangular hysteresis loops are obtained when the composition is such that λ<SUB> 111</SUB> is small, and K<SUB> 1</SUB> is adequately large.<BR>2) B<SUB> r</SUB>/B<SUB> 5</SUB>=0.94, B<SUB> r</SUB>=3, 890 Gauss, H<SUB> c</SUB>=0.37 Oe, T<SUB> c</SUB>=280°C and density=4.92 g/cc at the composition of 51 MnO-49Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>.<BR>3) When ferrites are sintered under a reduced atmosphere, a considerable ferrite formation occurs at 1, 000°C, and a remarkable shrinkage proceeds over the temperature range between 1, 000°C and 1, 200°C.
