A study was carried out to obtain a detailed knowledge about the precipitation process of the Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> phase in a series of sintered zinc ferrites containing excess Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> and B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> additives. In the specimen containing excess Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, the precipitation of Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> with Widman shape was observed in the crystal grains. The precipitation of Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, however, along the grain boundary and in voids was observed in the specimen containing B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>.<BR>The cause of such anomalous change in microstructure was discussed in connection with the mobility of Fe atoms.
