Roentgenograms taken by Chausse 111 projec- tion, Guillen projection and Owen's modification of Mayer projection were investigated for the pur- pose of visualizing the human auditory ossicles. The results so far obtained were as follows : 1) In the Chausse 111 projection, the malleus and incus overlapped one another and appeared like a small triangular shadow. Therefore the separate recognition of the malleus and incus was impossible in this method. 2) By Guillen's projection, the head of the malleus and the body of the incus were overlapped but the handle of the malleus and the long process of the incus were to be seen separately as two faint shadows. 3) In the Owen's projection, the contour of the ossicles was recognized most clearly as two separate shadow crossing the external auditory meatus. Although this projection seems to be most suitable for the demonstration of the ossicles, it remains as yet a very difficult problem to visu- alize their whole configration and contour on a single roentgenogram. Further investigation wou- ld be required in this respect. 4) The stapes could not be demonstrated in any projection.
