• The authors have studied how accurately 30 young women can repeat a tone or can sing the musical tone from c to c". They repeated a tone of c more correctly when it was produced by piano than a tone produced by a tuning fork. After the examinees heard a tone of c from a piano or a tuning fork, 70% of them could sing the musical scale of tone above the tone of c with error of ±2% of each tone. It is known that to sing the musical scale after the first tone of c is given is more difficult than to repeat the tone. When the examinees tried to repeat a halfpitched tone such as f above e or c" above b, they tended to repeat f or c" lower than each accurate frequency.
