• In order to make the diagnosis more reliable, bservation was made of the change of epipharyn-geal flora during the course of epipharyngitis.The following are the findings from such an bservation in 50 cases during the period of 47 linical days.1) It was possible to divide the change of floranto 6 types.2) Species as well as quantity of bacteria was found to increase at the time of acute increase of rynptoms such as the pain on touch of the epipha-ryngeal mucosa with the applicator.3) There occured sometimes the survlval of acertain species in those latent cases where the pat-ients show no apparent symptoms.4) These findings seem to 1ndicate a possiblity of making a fairly reliable diagnosis of epipharyn-gitis from the examination of epipharyngeal flora_
