In 1961 Dr. T. Kamio showed that the prognosis of Tympanoplasty of chronic otitis media was changed with the conditions of mastoid cavity, by comparing prognosis of tympanoplasty in 70 cases and the higtopathological granulation in the mastoid cavity. The investigation of the relation between the prognosis of tympanoplasty and the histopathological condition of mucous membrane by the same classi-fication as before, viz, 1) inflamation, 2) allergy, 3) prolifaration in the duct and cyst, 4) cholesterin granuloma, and 5) calcification was also made in this study. The following observations were found :1) The 90% of unfavourable 21 cases in 50 tympanoplasties showed strong inflamation of mu-cous membrane in the upper and central tympaniccavity and drum membrane. 2) The 80% of unfavourable 21 cases showed excessive prolifaration in the duct and cyst. 3) Allergic mucous membrane were seen in 17 cases. The favourable cases were only 4 in 17. Morever the 50% of all unfavourable 21 cases were allergic.4) Cholesterin granulomas were seen in 6 cases out of 50, in the upper tympanic cavity, and not in the central cavity, drum-membrane or ostium tuba. The prognosis of 6 cases were unfavourable.5) The 2 cases of unfavourable 21 showed only calcification and no other conditions.
