• The serological and bacteriological follow-up studies were conducted in patients with nephritis, rheumatic diseases and chronic febricula as the focal infection, before and after tonsillectomy, and these were compared with that in patients with chronic tonsillitis alone.1) In evaluating antistreptolysin-O titer, it is important to consider the age of each patient.2) It is necessary to measure not only antistreptolysin-O titer, but also anti-alpha-staphylolysin titer. Particularly, chronic febricula is accompanied by higher anti-alpha-staphylolysin titer.3) The antistreptolysin-O titer decreased relati vely rapidly after tonsillectomy, but in some patients, the titer was found unchangedor even increa sed.This problem requires further studies.4) C-reactive protein became positive in a few hours after tonsillectomy and had a tendency to revert to negative in 48_??_72 hours postoperatively.
