The discharge rate of solid particles through orifices is one of the important problems in handling solid particles. In this paper, the equation for estimating the discharge rate of solid particles, which was derived theoretically from Janssen''s and Ergun''s equations, have been proved experimentally to predict the discharge rate through orifices of different shapes when accompanied by a cocurrent stream of gas. The effect of the gas velocity, ur/umf is shown in the figure and the procedures for the design calculation are illustrated.
