Progress on Endoscopic Diagnosis of Colorectal Early Cancer.

Endoscopic electroresection was performed in 142 colorectal neoplasms, of which 80 lesions were classified as superficial type (superficial-elevated to superficial-depressed) and 62 lesions as elevated type. On investigation of their endoscopic findings, superficial cancer (13 lesions) revealed 11 hyperemic lesions (84.6%) and 6 lesions (16.0%) with central depression on their surfaces, whilc superficial adenoma (67 lesions), 12 lesions), 12 lesions (17.9%) with central depression were also noted. There was no significant difference between cancer and adenoma in the elevated type, but cancer in this type was apparently larger than the adenoma.<BR>It is considered that superficial cancer, even of small size, often invades into the submucosal layer ; therefore, it is neccesary to find superficial neoplasms by using surface dyeing technique, magnified observation, etc, and to remove it endoscopically
