From clinical, morphological and physiological stand points, anal fissures are studied and classified into the following types, as 1) acute simple fissure, 2) subacute fissure, 3) chronic complicated fissure, 4) multiple superficial fissure, 5) secondary or traction fissure, 6) specific types of anal fissure, 7) perianal skin cracks.<BR>The cause of anal fissures is not simle but various factors of those influence on formation of ulcerative lesions in the anal canal, which are listed as repeated trauma of the anoderm, irregular bowel habits, predisposing and anatomic weakness of the anal wall, infection of the anal crypts, of the sphincter muscles and local hygiene.<BR>Venous and chronic inflammatory changes are the most important histopathological findings associatedewith anal fissures.
