A new size-free hot forming method by tube spinning machine which has a small diameter mandrel and a forming roller is proposed for producing contoured cross section rings of superalloys and titanium alloys. Prior to contour forming of ring configurations, in order to investigate the effectiveness of the method, the forming experiments of contoured steel plates were carried out using the 2-Hi mill which has a driven roll and a revolution-free roller.The deformation behavior of superalloys and titanium alloy workpieces were investigated through the hot forming experiments and then the forming limits and some other characteristics of deformation were obtained. As a result, it has become clear that whole material with reduced plate-thickness flow in the width direction under optimum forming conditions. Therefore, the proposed method can be effectively applied to the forming of the contoured cross section rings.
