The demand of taper leaf spring, which has thickness variation in the longitudinal direction, is recently increasing for the purpose of weight-saving. Although taper leaf spring can be produced by cutting or forging, rolling may be the best method for productivity.However, when producing taper leaf spring, the main problems are that the width of leaf must be constant and also the thickness variation is usually ranged from 30% to 70%.Single Planetary Mill (S.P.M.) seems to overcome these problems and to be more suitable for the production of taper leaf spring than the conventional, 2-high mill or 4-high mill, in the point of reducing width spread and obtaining high reduction by one pass.Experiments are mainly concerned with the shape of cross-section and rolling load, and extended to the fatigue life.The results are shown as follows.1. Since the width spread is small, the rectification of width is easier than in the conventional 2-high rolling.2. The increase of load against the reduction is small.3. The fatigue life of taper leaf spring rolled by S.P.M. has no difference from that by the conventional.
