The pressure weldability of tool steels by hot rolling are experimentally investigated and the effects of steel combinations and rolling conditions are discussed.The effect of various steel combination can be demonstrated by the oxidation at high temperature and fragmentation of oxide film, deformation resistance ratio and diffusion of alloying elements.The oxidation prevention by Al addition and availability of the insert layer by nickel plating have a large effect on the pressure weldability. The reduction rate necessary for the bonding can be obtained by behavior of oxide film and deformation behavior of components. The rolling temperature influences the pressure weldability according to influence to oxidation amount.The influence of surface roughness is little.The annealing after hot rolling have a large effects on the pressure weldability. At the welded interface C, Cr and Ni are mostly diffused and diffusion of other element is few.
