A method to determine ureaglucoside (UG) was presented. In this method, urine containing UG was acted upon by urease, the deproteinized filtrate was enveloped with BuOH-EtOH-water (8:3:3), and the spot of UG was subjected to reaction with diacetylmonoxime. Then UG was determined colorimetrically.1. Fermentation experiment on UG was made with rumen-microorganisms. UG was not degraded nor utilized by rumen infusoria. On the other hand, rumen-bacteria degraded and utilized UG, 70% of which was changed into NH3.2. Utilization of UG by rats was investigated. Forty per cent of egg powder, or the sole nitrogen source, was replaced with UG, and nitrogen balance test was made. As a result, nitrogen balance was -2.8 for 3% egg powder 25.2 for 5% egg powder, and 8.0 for a mixture of 3% egg powder and 2% UG. It is assumed that UG was utilized by rats. No UG was found in the feces and 30% of it determined in the urine.
