A4 zone (Es-10), a type of aliesterase, was separated by starch-gel electrophoresis and its activity-level was examined under the various physiological conditions in the inbred strain CFW of mice.The results were summarized as follows:1) A4 zone was absent at weaning (21 days of age) but present at 31 days of age in the both sexes. After that, the activities of A4 zone in male mice increased, whereas those in female mice decreased slightly as the of mice developed, and exhibited sexual differences at 51 days.2) The activity-levels of A4 zone decreased gradually as pregnancy developed, and reached to about 30 precent of the normal activity at the later period of pregnancy (18 days).3) After delivery, the activity-levels of A4 zone increased gradually as lactating developed, and elevated to about 80 precent of the normal activity at the later period of lactating (18 days).4) The activity-levels of A4 zone in female mice increased slightly by ovariectomy, whereas those in male mice decreased markedly by castration.
