• Several workers have reported the electron microscopic studies on mammary alveolar cells of mice in various reproductive cycles1, 3-6, 8, 10, 12-14). The present paper deals with the electron microscopic studies on the mammary alveolar cells of mice during pregnancy and lactation performed as the first step to study the effects of the hormones responsible for the initiation and the maintenance of lactation on the function of the mammary alveolar cells and the synthesis of milk components.
