By the negative picture on the blue print paper, weight of tea occupying a definite space, and sieve fractionation, the deformation and tearing into fragments of the tea leaves during process were investigated, and the following results were obtained.
1. The deformation of the tea leaves passed through different stages according to the kind of tea and hardness of leaves.
2. The tightness of tea was indicated by the sieve fractionation, but this method was influenced by the shape of tea, so it was only available in the same shape of tea.
3. The compactness of Guri-tea was closely connected with the hardness of leaves, so it was necessary to use more softer leaves for making good shaped Guri-tea than for sen-cha.
