This volume provides critical evaluations of current research on DNA synthesis in vitro as well as details of up-to-date findings on the isolation of small DNA fragments capable of self-replication. The research reflects the wide-spread intereat generated by recent advances in the cloning of certain plasmids carrying replication origins.<BR>In this special issue on DNA replication, the following articles are included:<BR>I.
