This short communication proposes a new scaling law, based on which a scale-model experiment of a large-scale wind-aided fire phenomenon can be designed. The proposed scaling law utilizes the Froude number defined using the flame height. The results of two different scale-model experiments of the fire whirls observed after the Great Kanto Earthquake are reported. The wind velocities of the scale-model experiments were determined based on the proposed scaling law. The scale-model experiments successfully reproduced similar fire whirls to those observed after the Earthquake, validating the proposed scaling law.
