Peptides containing the disulfide bond were investigated by molecular secondary ion mass spectrometry. The mass spectra for the disulfide form as well as those for the reduced dithiol form of the peptides were observed. The reduction was the result of the reaction of the peptides with a thiol containing compound used as a matrix in secondary ion mass spectrometry. The observation with different matrices enables to confirm the existence of disulfide bonds.
