The automatic transmission is used for 80∼90 % of automobiles in the USA, Japan, and Korea. The reason of this situation is that the automatic transmission is better than the manual transmission considering environmental protection, drivers safety and drivability. To improve this situation, both of size down and weight reduction should be important. Therefore it is necessary what the strength of core parts of the automatic transmission is made higher, for example gears and CVT pulley. The key technologies are to control the microstructure, the micro machining, and the surface engineering.
