Various technologies to control NOx and to prevent environmental pollution have been developed. However, many of them do not support continuous operation and are expensive in installation cost. In Chita Plant of Daido Steel, an effect was confirmed with introduction of a denitration technology with no use of catalyst to No. 1 C. C. furnace, at a rather low cost. Denitration was most effective at temperature of 840 to 860C. It was also possible to continually control NOx content at a certain range. And, it could lower the previous level of 35 ppm. A major problem that NH3 left may cause trouble to the chimney is now under investigation. The technology could be applied to other furnaces in the future.
