In this work, analyses of the three-dimensional flow and convective heat transfer for 7-pin and 19-pin wire-wrapped fuel assemblies of liquid-metal reactor have been carried out using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with shear stress transport turbulence model. Both assemblies have been analyzed for single pitch of wire spacer with periodic boundary conditions applied at the inlet and outlet of the calculation domain. Axial velocity variations in different subchannels (interior, edge and corner), temperature gradient between the adjacent subchannels, and peak temperatures on the central and edge fuel rods have been considered as comparative parameters. Recirculating flows occur in the interior subchannel surrounding the central fuel rod of the 7-pin assembly unlike in the case of the 19-pin assembly. The temperature gradient between the adjacent interior subchannels surrounding the central fuel rod is found to be higher in the 19-pin assembly.
