1.The standard strain carrying homozygous gene arrangements in all chromosomal arms has been established for the salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila lutescens.2. A composite map of the standard gene arrangements (“A” arrangement for each chromosomal arm) is drawn.3. By crossing the standard strain with various strains of different geographical regions, the following number of inversions were found for each chromosomal arm, 1 for X, 3 for 2L, 4 for 2R, 3 for 3L, and 4 for 3R, making fifteen in total. The characteristics of these inversions were described together with photographs of salivary gland chromosomes heterozygous for these arrangements and the standard “A” arrangement.4. Geographical distribution of the various gene arrangements is also summarized.
