• By pectinase treatment the writer observed better figures of somatic chromosomes of rice plants. From karyotype analysis, the race Noorin-8 is assumed as the hybrid one beween the races such as Asahi (Rising sun) and Ginboozu, rather than between Asahi (Morning sun) and Ginboozu. O. grandiglumis, a foreign wild species, differs karyotypically from Japanese cultivated races examined. By differential staining some clear heterochromatin bands are observed on the large chromosomes. This finding would be able to contribute for more fine karyotype analysis as well as the study of relationship of Oryza plants.
