Crude acid phosphatase from wheat germ was separated into two enzyme forms by ion exchange chromatography. One of these, termed P-I, was composed of acidic isozymes with pIs of 4.0-4.7, and the other form, termed P-II, had more neutral ones with pIs of 4.7-7.0. There were no large differences between P-I and P-II in the relative rates of hydrolysis of substrates and optimal pHs. Immunological study, however, revealed that the two enzyme forms have distinct antigenic characteristics.
