The Shokuiku Basic Act was established in 2005, and amidst the nationwide implementation ofnutritional education, this research is involved in developing a "diet step-up guide" as an educationalmaterial to achieve ongoing and effective nutritional education in schools. According to the annuallifestyle trends over three years, the percentage of students whose "sleep time" is "eight hours ormore" decreased between the first and third years, but the percentage of students who got "less thaneight hours" also decreased. Further, the percentage who "ate breakfast every day" increasedbetween the second and third years. According to a comparison of the educational material used inthe same academic years from the first through to the third year, an improvement in lifestyles couldbe seen in "sleep time" and "morning excretions". From these results, it can be said that positiveeffects of using the teaching materials continuously over three years were obtained. Further, regardingthe items on "sleep time" and "breakfast details" in the educational materials, we added specifictargets that enable students to develop practical abilities in improving their lifestyles, with the aim ofimproving the quality of the teaching materials.
