Purpose: To report two cases of normal tension glaucoma (NTG) and two of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients with serum autoantibody against retinal ganglion cells. Methods: Ophthalmologic examinations, and immunologic studies including immunocytochemistry and western blot analysis were performed. Results: Immunocytochemistry revealed that patients' IgG specifically recognized retinal ganglion cells. In western blot analysis, they had serum autoantibody against retinal 50kDa protein. Conclusion: The present observations suggest that serum autoantibody against retinal ganglion cells may be involved in the pathogenesis of retinal ganglion cell damage in glaucoma.
