This paper discusses what kinds of Face Composition Phenomena are observed, in the case of refusal conversation, according to the relative degrees of intimacy between participants. The results of Face Composition Phenomena Show: 1. Towards their interlocutors with higher degree of intimacy, Japanese university students mostly use refusal strategies of 'Reason', 'Avoidance', and 'Statement of Alternative' considering Speaker's Face. This is because they take friendship with the current requester into consideration. 2. Towards their interlocutors with lower degree of intimacy, Japanese university students mostly use refusal strategies of 'Apology' for saving requester's face. This is because they consider that it is important to keep good human relations with the requester in the future. 3. Towards their interlocutors with lower degree of intimacy Japanese men and women mostly use refusal strategies for saving requester's face. Moreover, men use refusal strategies of 'Semi Face' for saving their own face as refuser.
