Generally, soil liquefaction during earthquake were occured at shallow-sandy saturated soil layer. These sandy soils became a overconsolidated state after earthquake because of the in-situ effective stress decreases due to the excess pore water pressure set up during earthquake loading. In addition, it was also subjected to pre-shear history due to previous earthquake and superstructures loadings. Their strength-deformation characteristics of the above mentioned soils were different from that of normally consolidated and non-presheared sandy soil even if the relative density was almost the same. This paper describes the test results of the four types of triaxial compression undrained tests and summarizes the influences of different stress histories on the undrained shear characteristics of saturated sand.
