Some characteritics on the shear layer of an axi-symmetric jet appear when a ring is positioned downstream of a round free jet. It became evident that self-sustained oscillation in the jet occurred because of the presence of the ring. Besides, the accoustic resonance of a pipe positioned in place of the ring appeared under special conditions such as the jet speed and the nozzle-pipe distance. The result is that this phenomenon comes from the coupling of the accoustic mode of the pipe with the disturbance in the shear layer. The phenomenon similar to the above is found when there are accoustic system upstream such as mounting a recutangular pipe on the nozzle.
