著者専攻: 理論言語学[Abstract] The ambiguity in English articles, one of the typical examples of polysemy that are not based on structural differences, cannot be explained by the hitherto proposed Quantifier Raising Principle. However, if we postulate the newly devised form of noun phrases, we can give a principled explanationto the related problems without revising my previously presented three Quantifier Raising Conditions: Quantifier Number Condition, Quantity Condition, and Inter-quantifier Maximal Projection Category Number Condition. This paper discusses the proposal of newly devised noun phrases to which articles are added and the applicability of the three polysemy-inducing conditions to the explanation of the ambiguity found in English noun phrases to which articles are added
